The Mirror with a Memory
PHOTOGRAPHY & VIRTUAL REALITY IN THE ARCHIVES September 21, 2016 • Manchester Historic Association, 129 Amherst Street, Manchester, NH Daguerrotype to Kodachrome. Magic lantern to View-Master. We will look at the first century of photography and repeated attempts to transform images into a virtual reality. Award-winning photographer and instructor Gary Samson will demonstrate the collodion (wet plate glass negative) process while Betsy Holmes provides a brief history of photography as an art form. Then we'll reconvene to learn how to digitize glass slides on a budget, and we'll peer into the world of the magic lantern, common stereoscope, and rare Megalethoscope. Optional afternoon tours will visit the special collections at the Manchester Historic Association and neighboring NH Institute of Art. Please join us on September 21. Attendance is limited to 40. |
